Welcome to the course, brought to you by the College of Anaesthetists of Ireland (CAI).

This course has been developed using a methodology called Proficiency Based Progression (PBP).
This methodology uses a process called Procedure Characterisation to develop an objectively defined curriculum. These curriculum feature phases, steps, errors and critical errors.

Step: A component task, the series aggregate of which constitutes the completion of a specific procedure.

Error: An error is deviation from optimal performance.

Critical Error: a deviation in performance that might infer life threatening, serious medical or legal implications.

During this course you will be presented with simulated footage of the Ultrasound Vascular Access reference procedure. Some errors and critical errors were also simulated. You must proceed step wise through these recordings and then complete the PBP Assessment.

You must mark each phase as complete to progress in the course.

The proficiency benchmark for the PBP Assessment is derived from the mean score from experts who have undertaken the course.

The proficiency benchmark for this course is 84%.

You will receive feedback following each attempt and you can attempt the assessment as often as required to reach the benchmark.

You must reach the proficiency benchmark in the online course in order to proceed to the in person training at the College.

We recommend that you use the Google Chrome web browser when undertaking the course.
